Join us for a delicious waste of time at Shreeji, Marylebone’s beloved South Asian newsagents. Slip in and find quiet refuge from the street. Inside, time softens around the edges.
Complimentary chai in hand, sip and wander freely through a series of delights. Flick through a selection of tea-themed magazines, hand-picked by Shreeji for a precious pause and perusal. Gather round Dishoom Chef-walla Salim – once a railway chai-walla in India – for all manner of chai wisdom to take home with you. Between dunks of freshly-baked Nankhatai and Jeera biscuits, browse the Dishoom Store, or play Matka – our in-house game of chance (roll a 6, win a prize).
Step into our Time Pass Room: soft seating for reading, slow-moving clips for gazing and corners designed for pleasant distraction. On Friday and Sunday, have your portrait drawn by artist YoJanda (@yo_janda). On Saturday, make your own bookmark using traditional Indian woodblock techniques, hosted by artist Neerja Sehgal (@neerscreenprints). No pennies needed.
Two Chai Pe Charcha sessions will unfold over the mornings – settle into meaningful conversations over complex topics stemming from South Asian culture, all over bottomless chai. Join Rikesh Chauhan (@rkzuk) for ‘The Art of Wasting Time’ and Poonam Dhuffer (@pdhuffer) for ‘Filling Your Cup First’. (Tickets released separately.)
Before you go, pick up a free copy of DishoomPresents: A Delicious Waste of Time, filled with stories, poems, listicles and curiosities by artists, writers and those gifted in artful idling. Wasting time, when done deliciously, is positively luxurious. Positively nourishing.
All are welcome. Swing by – no tickets required.
